Northwest Community Receives Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence
Northwest Community Hospital is proud to be one of only 3 percent of healthcare organizations in the nation to earn Magnet status designated by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Here’s more about what this award means to usand especially to you. It's the highest level of recognition nursing services can receive.
The Magnet Recognition Program® was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, to recognize healthcare organizations that provide the very best in nursing care. Magnet status is awarded to hospitals that exhibit exemplary patient outcomes and satisfaction, have impressive nurse-patient ratios and attract and retain the best staff from all disciplines. To date, only 3 percent of the 6,000 hospitals in the nation hold this prestigious designation. Northwest Community is honored to be one of them.
To earn Magnet status, organizations must apply and undergo a multi-faceted evaluation. They must also submit extensive documentation on how they meet Magnet standards. The process is thorough and lengthy, takes a minimum of 18 months to complete, and includes extensive on-site evaluations and interviews with our staff, physicians and patients. To ensure that Magnet hospitals continue to perform among the elite in the nursing field, they must reapply for this designation every four years and provide updates annually.

Northwest Community Named One of Nation's Best 50 Hospitals for Treatment of Cancer and Digestive Disorders
The honors keep coming for Northwest Community Hospital, which earned two more national distinctions this week because of its commitment to advanced technologies and specialized patient care. The Arlington Heights hospital is among the best 50 medical centers in the nation for the treatment of cancer and digestive disorders, according to a study by U.S. News & World Report. In the magazine’s July 17, 2006 “America’s Best Hospitals” issue, Northwest Community ranked 37th in the country for cancer services and 43rd for its Gastroenterology Center. The U.S. News & World Report survey, considered one of the most widely used and respected healthcare reports, examined 5,200 U.S. hospitals. Only 3 percent of those hospitals achieved a ranking in any of the 16 specialties listed. For more information, click here. |
