Community Health Initiatives:
Pediatric Overweight
The lifestyle of today’s family has changed significantly over recent years.
In order to keep up with the demands of busy schedules, family dinners have been replaced by convenience foods and visits to local fast food drive through windows.
Children no longer meet at the corner park to play a neighborhood baseball game, but rather gather in front of the television or computer to compete in the hottest new video games.
Unfortunately, these changes are taking a toll on our children’s health, and pediatric overweight and diabetes have reached epidemic proportions.
Northwest Community Hospital is deeply concerned, and therefore will be focusing its efforts on developing strategies to address this growing problem. Through collaborative partnerships with local school districts, health professionals, and other community partners, we hope to provide education and resources for children and families in the community in order to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.
