At Northwest Community Hospital, our highly trained and licensed staff of speech and language pathologists concentrate on restoring your ability to communicate through the development and improvement of speaking, listening, thinking, reading, writing, problem-solving, and organizing and sequencing skills.

Speech and language therapy services include:

• Swallowing evaluations, including video, fluoroscopic studies and swallowing rehabilitation services
• Voice rehabilitation and strengthening
• Rehabilitation programs for patients with stroke, mental status changes, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and other neurological conditions
• Services for patients having trouble speaking intelligibly or understanding, finding or forming words

Specialized speech and language therapy programs

• Lee Silverman Voice Treatment^® focuses on helping patients with Parkinson’s disease maintain their ability to communicate.
• Accent modification helps adults who are not native English speakers reduce the differences in their speech and intonation patterns.

• Brain Waves: A Stroke Support Group—Please join us for our community stroke support meeting for patients and caregivers. Depression is a common aftereffect of stroke and you don’t have to go it alone.  Brain Waves is a stroke support group that meets on the third Thursday of the month from 2 - 3:30 pm at the 901 Kirchoff building on the NCH main campus. Every month, the program includes a meet-and-greet, a guest speaker and light refreshments. The program is free of charge but advance registration is required. You may register online or by calling HealthConnection at 847.618.4YOU (4968).
