If you experience any of these symptoms, call 911 and ask to be taken to a Designated Stroke Center, such as Northwest Community Hospital.
Getting medical help within the first few hours of a stroke is critical. So when you're suffering from stroke symptoms, rely on Northwest Community Hospital's NeuroInterventional Surgery/Stroke Program, home to the area's most advanced stroke treatments.
Designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, NCH is one of only two hospitals in the Northwest Suburbs to offer neurointerventional surgery procedures. These procedures can significantly diminish, if not reverse, the effects of your stroke and prevent long-term disability.
NCH can offer these advanced, minimally invasive intervention techniques for stroke symptoms thanks to the recent addition of Ali Shaibani, MD, director of neurointerventional surgery, to the NCH medical staff. Dr. Shaibani's expertise is broadening NCH’s ability to provide care for stroke victims as well as other patients with vascular diseases of the brain and spine.
In addition to stroke treatment, advanced, minimally invasive procedures are available for many neurological issues, including brain aneurysms, nervous system diseases and disorders of the peripheral nervous system.
NCH is committed to offering the best possible stroke treatment to people showing signs of a stroke. Following the guidelines set by the American Stroke Association, we use the following stroke treatments to restore the blood flow to the affected area of your brain after a stroke when appropriate. If, after showing warning signs of stroke, you arrive at the hospital:
Within the first four and a half hours: You will be given an injection of IV tPA medication—a tissue plasminogen activator—to break up the clot that caused your stroke.
Between four and a half and eight hours: Neurointerventional minimally invasive techniques will be used to locate, dissolve or remove your clot.
