The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System has fundamentally changed the way many surgeries and other procedures are performed. As a minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy, da Vinci may be the most effective, least invasive surgical treatment option available today. That’s why we pioneered the use of robotic surgery at Northwest Community Hospital—to help you heal faster and go home sooner.

The Robotic Gynecologic Surgery Institute at NCH

Due to the volume and complexity of robotic surgeries performed, NCH has been named a Robotic Surgery Epicenter by Intuitive Surgical, maker of the da Vinci robot. The Robotic Institute specializes in surgical treatments for benign gynecological conditions, such as:

  • Hysterectomy—da Vinci provides a superior surgical tool for hysterectomies, including radical hysterectomies.
  • Gynecological procedures—including the latest treatments for endometriosis, uterine fibroids, heavy uterine bleeding and uterine prolapse.

As the first gynecology Epicenter in the tri-state area of Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, one of only 22 of its kind in the country, the Robotic Institute is a referral center for complex gynecology cases. Individual doctors and entire surgical teams from around the United States visit the Robotic Gynecologic Surgery Institute on a weekly basis to observe the NCH robotic surgical team perform sophisticated, minimally invasive procedures.

More treatments, more possibilities

At NCH, we are proud to be one of the first hospitals in the area to use the da Vinci system to offer a broader range of surgical procedures than ever before, which also includes treatments for:

With da Vinci, your surgeon is in control

It is important to know that da Vinci surgery does not place a robot at the controls; your surgeon controls every surgical movement with the assistance of the da Vinci robotic platform. The da Vinci System translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments within your body.

By utilizing da Vinci’s technically advanced robotic arms and precise 3D imaging, surgeons are able to successfully carry out even the most complex and delicate operations through incisions as small as one to two centimeters.

da Vinci improves patient outcomes

Because the da Vinci system allows surgeons to perform surgery through very small incisions, patients having da Vinci surgery may experience:

  • Less post-operative pain and discomfort
  • Less scarring and faster recovery
  • Minimized blood loss
  • Reduced risk of infection
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Faster return to normal daily activities
  • Better clinical outcomes

The most advanced da Vinci system available today—da Vinci® Si™

At NCH, we are proud to be one of the few hospitals in the area to offer the latest generation of da Vinci technology—the da Vinci Si—allowing us to perform a broader range of surgical procedures than ever before. The new da Vinci Si system carries with it all the benefits seen with previous versions plus several improved features, including:

  • Enhanced 3D high definition color imaging that offers unmatched visual clarity with up to 10x magnification
  • Updated and simplified user interface to enhance efficiencies
  • Improved ergonomic settings to the surgeon console that provide greater comfort
