For more than 50 years, Northwest Community Hospital has been welcoming the smallest and newest members of our community into the world. Located on floors 4 and 5 of the South Pavilion, our Women's Center offers a full range of advanced medical services and conveniences to keep both you and your baby comfortable, healthy, safe and happy. All labor and delivery rooms are private and feature natural light, soothing colors and noise reduction to reduce stress and promote healing. In addition, mothers and babies receive expert care around the clock from board-certified physicians and Magnet®-awarded nurses dedicated to making the experience of childbirth safe, comfortable and family-friendly.

Our start-of-the-art NICU means that tiny preemies and women experiencing high-risk pregnancies can get the highest level of specialized care right here at NCH. Top experts in Maternal-Fetal Medicine from NorthShore Evanston Hospital are available to help care for high-risk mothers, and neonatologists from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago are on site to care for newborns with special needs.

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) features spacious, private high-tech rooms where parents can stay with their baby, even overnight. You'll experience a warm, comfortable environment designed to keep your family together, plus the safety and support of some of the best doctors in Chicago using the most advanced technologies to care for your baby's health.

Comprehensive pregnancy and childbirth education resources

Special care during pregnancy, including high-risk mothers

  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physicians from NorthShore Evanston Hospital (part of the NorthShore University HealthSystem) are available for consultations with your personal obstetrician.
  • Private antepartum rooms for mothers-to-be experiencing problems with pregnancy such as pre-term labor, illness or multiple pregnancy.

All private labor and delivery rooms

  • Private, comfortable rooms fully equipped with the latest technology.
  • Take a virtual tour of one of our labor and delivery rooms.
  • Spouse/partner or support person is welcome to stay overnight in room.
  • Rooms feature pull-out guest bed, in-room showers, work area with Wi-Fi Internet access and storage space for your convenience.
  • Three c-section operating rooms located within the unit just in case.
  • Download a comprehensive packing list for mothers-to-be.

Compassionate, expert medical care during labor and delivery

  • Supportive and knowledgeable labor and delivery nurses staff the unit around the clock and work with your attending obstetrician or midwife to provide your care.
  • OB hospitalists (board-certified obstetricians) onsite 24 hours a day – to work with your attending OB or certified nurse midwife (CNM) to care for you in case of emergency, until your OB arrives.
  • Neonatologists from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago available at all times.
  • Anesthesiologist dedicated to labor and delivery available 24/7 for pain management.

State-certified NICU

  • All private rooms in NICU are designed so parents can stay with baby, even overnight.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is certified by the state to provide the most advanced care to premature and critically ill infants, including multiples.
  • Board-certified neonatologists from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago care for newborns of any gestational age.

Round-the-clock support, privacy and education in Mother-Baby Unit

  • Private room for you and your baby, with a pull-out bed for spouse/partner.
  • The same nurse provides care for both you and your newborn.
  • You are encouraged to have your baby with you during your stay (also called rooming in); our Well Baby Nursery is available 24/7 as needed.
  • Nursing staff works closely with you and your partner, teaching you how to nurture and care for your infant to help you prepare for the transition home.
  • Bella Baby Photography will come to your room to take professional pictures.
  • Pediatrix Hearing Screeners provide hearing tests for baby, right in your room.

Breastfeeding Support Services before and after delivery

  • Certified lactation consultants available for one-on-one private breastfeeding consultation during pregnancy, the hospital stay and after discharge.
  • NCH is the recipient of a federal grant under the Model Communities program to encourage mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first six months for optimal health benefits.

NCH pediatric services to care for your child in the future

  • Pediatric Developmental Follow-up Clinic provides assessment by a team which includes a neonatologist, nurse and occupational, speech and physical therapists for at-risk and premature newborns after discharge.
  • State-certified Pediatric ER (Peds ER) staffed by pediatric emergency doctors from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
  • Lurie Children's specialists in more than 20 pediatric specialties also available for outpatient consultations and follow up.
