Marjorie Fitzgerald and her husband, the late Gerald Fitzgerald Sr., enjoy their 60th wedding anniversary party in 2009. Last year, the couple made a generous donation to Cardiovascular Services at Northwest Community.
Our region lost a legendary banking professional and an extraordinary community leader when Gerald Fitzgerald Sr. died this past October at age 85. Guided by conservative investment principles and a strong belief in community banking, Gerry founded and built Suburban Bancorp, an unusually successful enterprise with 13 banks and 30 locations when it merged with Harris Bank under the Harris name in 1994.
Just a month before Gerry's passing, Foundation staff visited him and his wife, Marjorie, to thank them for their generous gift to NCH's Cardiovascular Services. Long reliant on NCH for their family's healthcare, the couple made the contribution out of gratitude for Gerry's excellent post-stroke care and surgery in 2009. Describing her husband's stay at NCH, Marjorie noted, "The care was wonderful."
