Adam Williams Initiative Grant

Through the efforts of Trauma Coordinator Laura Aagesen, BSN, MBA, TNS, and Neurosurgey Nurse Practitioner and Neuroscience Clinical Nurse Specialist Julie A. Wubs, MSN, CCRN, CNRN, ACNP-BC, Northwest Community Hospital (NCH) is one of four hospitals nationwide selected for the Adam Williams Initiative Grant.

This initiative provides training and equipment to military and civilian Level I and II Trauma Centers across the United States for the treatment of severe traumatic brain injuries.

The grant will provide continued development of the community-leading expertise NCH has established in the field of neurotrauma and neurocritical care. It allows members of the Critical Care Unit/ED team to get onsite training at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California.

After the onsite training is completed, the Adam Williams Initiative Grant will also aid NCH in the implementation of:

  • Two brain tissue oxygenation monitors (Licox)
  • One pupillometer
  • Two-year membership with the Brain Trauma Foundation
  • $20,000 - $30,000 of onsite traumatic brain injury training for NCH staff

"We are very excited to have received this grant," Wubs says. "It equips us with tools to achieve our goal to raise the quality outcomes of patients needing this specialized type of care."
