Local Cancer Foundation Honors Dr. Philip Lobo
The Susan F. Lasky Cancer Foundation is hosting a golf outing fundraiser on July 23, and one of Northwest Community Hospital's (NCH) very own medical staff members will be front and center as the event's honoree. Philip Lobo, MD, NCH radiation oncologist, is being honored by the Lasky Foundation for the compassionate cancer care he provides to all of his patients. Among them was the late Susan F. Lasky.
"We [the Lasky Foundation] have honored loved ones that we have lost in recent years, but thought that there was no better acknowledgment than to honor someone who is with us and continuing to help people every day," says Pam Lasky, president of the Lasky Foundation and daughter of Susan Lasky. "Dr. Lobo is a kind and generous man who contributes greatly to the radiation oncology community. We just felt it was time to show our appreciation, too."
It was in the 1990s that Dr. Lobo touched the lives of the entire Lasky family when he treated Susan Lasky for breast cancer. Although Susan lost her six-year battle with cancer in 1997, the Lasky family was strengthened by Susan's courage and dignity to fight the disease. They also were touched by the compassionate manner of Dr. Lobo, of whom Pam and her father, David Lasky, can't say enough.
David recalls how Dr. Lobo was very intentional and took time to engage both family and friends who would accompany his wife, Susan, during appointments. "While Suzie's outcome was not positive, the care she received from both Dr Lobo and others at NCH was caring," says David, commenting on the lasting impression Dr. Lobo has left on the entire family.
The Lasky Foundation Golf Outing and Fundraiser
The Lasky Foundation's Golf Outing will be held July 23 at the Traditions of Chevy Chase Golf Course in Wheeling. The event begins at 10:30 am with registration, lunch and a putting contest, followed by a 12:30 shotgun start. At 6 pm, guests will enjoy cocktails, appetizers, door prizes and raffles.
This year, the Lasky Foundation will donate $20,000 of the Golf Outing's proceeds to NCH. Half will go to the Gift-A-Mammogram program, which funds diagnostic mammograms and follow-up care for uninsured women. The other $10,000 will help fund a new 4-dimensional wide-bore CT scanner that Dr. Lobo and the NCH Radiation Oncology team will use to more precisely target radiation therapy treatments.
