Earlier this month, Children's Memorial's main hospital moved to 225 E. Chiacago Avenue and became Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. This 23-story, state of the art facility is housed on the campus of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and is connected to Prentice Women's Hospital to allow for faster transport of critically ill newborns. With a new location and name, the organization is continuing its mission to provide superior care to the region's most critically ill and injured children.
According to the Lurie Children's website, the new name recognizes philanthropist Ann Lurie, and her late husband, for the $100 million gift she made in 2007. Her generosity was pivotal to the Heroes for Life campaign, which helped fund the new hospital and engage the wider community in this endeavor.
Under its new name, Lurie Children's will continute operating outpatient locations thoughout the Chicago area, including its Outpatient Center on the Northwest Community Hospital campus. The long-standing partnership between Lurie Children's and NCH remains strong and unaffected by the recent changes.
The following Lurie Children's resources and specialty physician services are provided at NCH:
NCH's Pediatric Emergeny Room is staffed by Lurie Children's pediatric specialists board-certified in pediatric emergency medicine. The Pediatric Emergency Room is open daily 9 am – 1 am. (When the Pediatric ER is closed, Lurie Children's specialists are available for pediatric consult in the main Emergency Department.)
Lurie Children's pediatric hospitalists work with pediatricians on staff at NCH to provide expert inpatient hospital care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in NCH's Pediatric Inpatient Unit.
Neonatologists on staff at both Lurie Children's and NCH provide 24/7 care to critically ill babies in NCH's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
