While providing patient data so users have it "when they need it, where they need it, and how they need to see it" continues to be the goal of the CareLink EHR initiative, some of the enhancements being made also support the federal government's "Meaningful Use" standards. One of the goals of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) is to ensure that quality measures are being put in place to help improve patient outcomes as part of electronic documentation.
The latest enhancements to CareLink that will go live on April 4 support these measurable outcomes by way of order sets, i-Forms and documentation specific to venous thromboembolism (VTE) and stroke. NCH medical staff, along with clinical staff, must complete a CBT to learn how to enter codified diagnoses, as well as document exclusions of various treatments and other mandatory orders related to VTE and stroke starting April 4.
