Falls are the leading cause of fatal injuries among older adults, with one-third of Americans over age 65 suffering a fall. In fact, every 17 seconds an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall and every 29 minutes an older adult dies after suffering a fall. The financial toll for adult falls is expected to reach $54.9 billion by 2020, according to the National Council on Aging and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
These statistics are behind NCH's efforts to hold a fall risk screening clinic on March 1, which may be appropriate for your patients who are prone to falls. NCH physical therapists will work with patients who are prone to fall and teach them what they can do to keep themselves safe at home. The 30-minute screenings are scheduled from 10 am to 2 pm at the NCH Outpatient Center, 3300 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows. Patients can register by calling 847.618.3890.
