Patient Care Unit Changes Reflect Commitment to Patient & Family Centered Care
As part of NCH's continuation of a process to consolidate patient care units in order to improve quality and transition NCH to an all-private room environment, a select number of clinical units and teams have been or will be moving to new locations. The moves should result in improved patient continuity of care, as well as staffing efficiencies and greater patient satisfaction.
"We believe this new reconfiguration will allow us to continue providing patients with individualized and specialized care in a more efficient environment," said Steve Scogna, CEO of NCH. "We believe our patients will benefit from these moves."
The following moves have already taken place:
Pre Post Procedure Unit (PPPU)
The pre- and post-procedure unit (PPPU) relocated to the former Medical Observation Unit/ED Triage location on Monday, May 13. The PPPU continues to serve the pre- and post-procedure care needs of patients for the cardiac cath lab, cardiac diagnostics and interventional radiology. Please contact Bonnie DeGrande, director of cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services, at 847.618.7663, or Nancy Ritze-Cullen, manager of PPPU and cardiac diagnostics, at 847.618.3325, if you have questions.
NCH reconfigured two departments on May 20. The 9 South Oncology unit and team temporarily moved to 6 East. The 6 East Medical-Pulmonary unit and team relocated to 9 South. The Oncology unit's move allows for a truly dedicated Oncology specialty unit in a space configuration better suited for this particular patient population.
Critical Care Unit (CCU)
On June 10, the CCU moved from 2 South to 3 North. The critical care units were consolidated from two units into one unit. The move results in improved coverage by Critical Care Physicians and improved efficiency of the specially trained critical care team of nurses and therapists.
The following moves are scheduled in late June. Additional information about these moves will be forthcoming:
CSU moves from 2ES to 2S
The Cardiac Surveillance Unit is scheduled to move from the second floor in the East Pavilion to 2 South on Wednesday, June 19. The move is scheduled to start at 9 am and is expected to be completed by 1 pm. The CSU will be in two locations:
2S – 30 beds with a focus on heart failure patients and renal failure patients
3ES – 18 beds with a focus on post-AMI, thoracotomies and interventional patients
Both areas of the unit will continue to provide care for patients with a targeted cardiac diagnosis. If you have questions about the move, please contact Connie Selsky, CSU director, at ext. 6310.
