Alan B. Loren, MD, Ph.D, Chief of Surgery at Northwest Community Healthcare, long time member of the American College of Surgeons and Past President of the Chicago Chapter, was recently elected to the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
The ACS is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913. Their mission is to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. The Board of Governors consists of 270 elected members who serve a three-year term as the official link between the 78,000 members and the 22-member Board of Regents. The Board of Regents is ultimately responsible for the policy and administration of the college, which includes Quality, Education, Political Advocacy and Communication. This highly prestigious position will allow Dr. Loren to be instrumental in improving the quality of surgery and representing surgeons on a national level.
