NCH's GI Center has acquired new state-of-the-art technology that will help physicians with staging and diagnosing lung cancers and improve quality of care delivered to patients.
The Lung Navigation System will enable physicians to perform navigation of the lung during bronchoscopies and endoscopic bronchial ultrasounds. The new technology will allow physicians access to tumors in the periphery of the lung, resulting in advanced, early diagnoses of lung cancers.
The non-surgical, minimally invasive navigation system also allows physicians to implant fiducial markers which provide direct radiation to the exact site of the cancer in the lung.
The new system allows navigation to be completed without the use of fluoroscopy, reducing radiation exposure among patients, staff and physicians.
