If You’re a Visitor…

If you are planning to visit a patient at Northwest Community Hospital, please take a moment to read through these guidelines.

If you are the primary support person for a patient, it is suggested that you to also read the section on Patient Information.


Respect for Patients

We care about the comfort of all of our patients. We respectfully request that all visitors be sensitive to the needs of other patients and families by speaking softly, showing consideration to all, respecting the individuals around them, and monitoring the behavior of children.

To find your way around the NCH campus, we offer several different Maps and Wayfinding aids.


Recommended Visiting Hours

The visiting hours for most of the Hospital are: Noon-8 pm

If you are a primary support person for a patient at the Hospital, you may make arrangements to visit at any time. Children are allowed to make short visits if they are accompanied by an adult. If you have special needs regarding visiting hours, please speak with a member of the nursing staff. call 847.618.1000 to reach a specific department.

Dining Services

We offer several choices in dining for your convenience when visiting: The Village Café; The Oasis Food Court; and various beverage and food stations throughout our campus.


Guest Wireless Network

Northwest Community Hospital offers free wireless Internet access for guests and visitors. Available in most areas throughout the hospital, the wireless network allows guests to use their own wireless-equipped laptop computers to surf the web, check e-mail and chat with friends and family.

Smoking Policy

Northwest Community Hospital is a leader for disease prevention and committed to the health and well-being of the communities we serve. Demonstrating that commitment, Northwest Community Hospital is a 100% smoke-free environment as of April 2, 2007. Smoking is not permitted in all buildings, parking garages, surrounding grounds and vehicles on Northwest Community property. Thank you in advance for helping Northwest Community Hospital to provide a healthy and healing environment for our patients, visitors, employees, physicians and volunteers.


Cellular Phone Policy

Hospitals have limited the use of cellular phones in the past due to concerns that cellular phones and other radio frequency transmitting devices may generate signals that could cause interference with medical equipment. Due to a better understanding of the technological risks, Northwest Community Healthcare now allows the use of cellular phones in select areas. However, the following areas still prohibit the use of cell phones.

DO NOT USE CELL PHONES IN THESE AREAS:

  • North Wing - Patient Floors 2 through 9
  • South Wing - Patient Floors 2 through 4
  • West Wing - Patient Floor 2
  • North Pavilion: 2nd and 3rd Floors (with noted exceptions)
  • Cardiology Department (with exception of family waiting areas)
  • Radiology Department
  • Laboratory Department
  • Emergency Department (with exception of main waiting area)
  • All Public Hallways on 1st Floor
  • Day Surgery Building (with exceptions)
  • Oncology/Cancer Services Department
  • Respiratory Department
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation Area
  • Wellness Center (with exception of lobby and locker rooms)
  • Emergency Treatment Centers: All clinical and treatment areas

This policy applies to all persons, including staff, physicians, patients, visitors, ambulance attendants, and police officers.

New signage is being installed throughout the organization to help guide people to designated cellular phone areas.
