NEW IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

NCH brings quality health care services and convenience to residents of Mount Prospect

It's a scene that plays out countless times across the community. A Little Leaguer rounds third base but comes up limping. A newlywed tumbles from the ladder when hanging those drapes. The cook-of-the-house gets a little too flamboyant with that sharp new knife. But now, that trip for medical treatment can be that much quicker and easier with the opening of Northwest Community Hospital's new Health Center in Mount Prospect at 199 West Rand Road on August 8, which will include immediate care, physician offices, lab services, imaging and cardiac diagnostic testing.

According to Holly Badal, director of the NCH Immediate Care Centers, the doctors and staff at the immediate care walk-in clinic in the 40,000-square-foot Mount Prospect facility can treat most minor injuries, including minor fractures, sprains and strains, as well as upper respiratory infections, flu, earaches, sore throats, nausea, vomiting and skin irritations—almost anything short of serious trauma or life-threatening situations—all from one convenient location.

"Walk-ins will be accepted at the new NCH Health Center and, as always, are welcome at our other immediate care locations, too," explains Badal. "In addition to immediate care, we also offer comprehensive occupational health services for any work-related injury and we provide follow-up to ensure a safe return to work."

The NCH Health Center also has lab services and a robust diagnostic imaging center, including CT scans, MRI, ultrasound and X-rays. Complete cardiac testing is also offered, such as EKGs, stress tests and echocardiograms. "We're hoping this is where area residents go for medical care when they don't need to be hospitalized," Badal says. "Having these services close by is huge for community members who want to get in and out and on with their lives, as quickly and conveniently as possible."

Quality Healthcare Close to Home

Convenience is just one part of a broader effort in expanding healthcare options for the community. "The development of the NCH Health Center in Mount Prospect is part of our continuing commitment to providing services to our community on its terms—where, how and when it's wanted and needed by residents," says Michael Hartke, executive vice president, NCH Clinics and Regional Services. "And, as our communities continue to grow and change, we'll also evolve so we can continue to meet the needs of our patients."

Underscoring this commitment to the community is access to NCH Medical Group primary care physicians, both internal medicine and family practice, who have offices at this new site. Patients at the new center also have access to renowned specialists through Northwest Community Hospital and will benefit from coordinated multiple services within the Northwest Community Healthcare system.

A New and Improved ED

The launch of the NCH Health Center in Mount Prospect coincides with the completion of the final phase of Northwest Community Hospital's Emergency Room expansion and renovation, helping NCH to better meet patient's healthcare needs and accommodate the many advances in emergency care. Begun in 2007, the project was phased so as not to disrupt services to the community, with the initial phase completed in 2009 when a portion of the ED moved into the first floor of the new South Pavilion. NCH's ED is the third busiest in the state of Illinois.

"The final phase included the reconstruction of the Emergency Room waiting area, the triage area and the front service department, making it more accessible, spacious and comfortable for our patients and their families," says Barb Weintraub, RN, NP, director, Adult & Pediatric Emergency and Trauma Services. "We now have twice as much emergency treatment capacity as before, along with private treatment rooms."

The intent: to enhance the overall patient experience by providing access to NCH's comprehensive community of care—no matter where you are in the northwest suburbs.
