Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Program Highlights

Pulmonary rehabilitation at NCH consists of Phase II "reconditioning" and Phase III "maintenance" outpatient rehabilitation programs. Patients attend three, 1-1.5 hour exercise and education sessions per week. Our multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and exercise physiologists, will develop an individualized program that will raise your level of physical and social functioning. This program will include supervised exercise, breathing retraining, lifestyle modification counseling (group and individual) and on-going support.,

Most importantly, Pulmonary Rehabilitation can help patients break the frustrating cycle caused by chronic lung disorders that lead to inactivity.

Participation

We encourage family members to participate in all educational and counseling sessions. Spouses or significant others are also welcome to join NCH's Phase III program and exercise right alongside participants.

Health Insurance

The majority of health insurance companies cover the prescribed services of Phase II Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Phase III involves modest fees which most individuals will find to be a reasonable out- of-pocket expense. A Cardiopulmonary Rehab team member can help individuals in determining the extent of their coverage.
