Physical Therapy focuses on improving and restoring an individual's ability to function independently. Therapists work to improve a patient's strength, mobility, coordination, balance, endurance and flexibility to increase the individual's overall level of functioning. Some of the services provided include: therapeutic exercises; range of motion; closed-chain rehab; pain control; wound care; body mechanics; and posture training.
Occupational Therapy focuses on enabling a patient to function as independently as possible in performing activities of daily living. Therapists evaluate a patient's ability to perform self-care tasks. Treatment focuses on improving and restoring the physical, cognitive, and perceptual capabilities of the individual. Work simplification, lymphedema control, re-education, range of motion, edema control, fabrication of splinting devices, and fine motor training, are some of the services provided.
Speech/Language Pathology concentrates on restoring the individual's ability to communicate through the development and improvement of speaking, listening, thinking, reading, writing, problem solving, organizing and sequencing skills. Treatment also involves working with individuals experiencing swallowing difficulties to allow optimal tolerance for safe oral intake and adequate nutrition.
Aquatic Therapy involves the use of a warm water therapy pool to enhance a patient's recovery and tolerance for activities that might otherwise prove difficult on land. Trained therapists use the principles of water, i.e., buoyancy, resistance, viscosity and force absorption to design individual treatment programs to speed recovery and rehab process. Aquatic therapy can be used in conjunction with a land based therapy program or individually to meet treatment goals.
Sports Medicine provides progressive strengthening, mobility, endurance and coordination training combined with specialized exercise and manual techniques to enhance recovery and enable patients to return to their sport safely and quickly. Northwest Community features a wide variety of advanced state-of-the-art equipment which provides rehabilitation for a quicker and safer transition back to an appropriate level of activity.
