Medical Services:
Surgical Services - Overview
Not long ago, surgery used to be an invasive procedure that required large incisions, heavy doses of anesthesia and pain medication, and surgical techniques that traumatized the patient's organs. Most surgeries also required a lengthy hospital stay.
At Northwest Community Hospital, thanks to the latest minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques, our specialists can perform entire surgeries through tiny incisions while inflicting less pain, causing minimal scarring and allowing for a speedier recovery.
Highly skilled and experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and other specially trained staff, working closely with your physician, are part of the caring, compassionate environment at Northwest Community Hospital.
Prior to surgery, patients receive a thorough medical evaluation and consultation with members of the surgical team. Patients usually go home one or two days after surgery and receive follow-up care until they are fully recovered.
Program Highlights:
- Day Surgery Center - Since 1988, the Northwest Community Day Surgery Center has been a leading provider of outpatient surgery services. It is one of the largest surgical centers in the state, performing more than 9,000 procedures annually. More than 180 qualified doctors and a team of specially trained nurses provide expert surgical care to patients in all age groups from patients as young as 21 days old.
- Pediatric Pre-Surgical Program - An informative class designed for children 3-12 years of age, who are having surgery that requires an inpatient stay.
- Cancer Services Program is approved by the American College of Surgeons. Only 20 percent of hospitals in the country have accredited cancer programs and 80 percent of all cancer care is provided by community cancer centers.
- Minimally Invasive Biopsies - Northwest Community Hospital is the first in the state of Illinois to offer women a new, minimally invasive form of biopsy to examine suspicious lesions in the breast.
The da Vinci® Surgical System

With the introduction of the da Vinci Surgical System, Northwest Community Hospital surgeons can reach new levels of precision when performing minimally-invasive surgeriesespecially prostatectomies. Its highly responsive motion control precisely translates the surgeon’s movements with just a few small incisions, so procedures are much less disruptive to patients. Click Here to Read More.
