Alan B. Loren, M.D., Ph.D., is the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President at NCH. In his role, Loren leads the overall clinical vision for NCH and provides medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services. A board-certified general surgeon, Loren has been practicing at NCH for more than 25 years.
Dr. Loren received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana; Doctor of Medicine degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood; and doctorate in immunopathology from University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago. He holds the prestigious titles of Governor for the American College of Surgeons and Board Examiner for the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Loren has held numerous leadership positions at NCH, including chairman of the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, president of the NCH Medical Staff and chief of surgery at NCH. He is a member of numerous surgical societies and has been elected to Top Surgeons in America and Best Doctors in America.
In addition to his duties as CMO, Dr. Loren admits to being “a mediocre golfer, a former union electrician and a current card-carrying wedding officiant.” Dr. Loren credits the NCH neonatal team in “working tirelessly to save the life of my newborn grandson. For that I will be forever grateful and so very proud to be part of this organization.”
