NCH handles more than 2,000 pediatric inpatient admissions per year. If your child needs to be hospitalized, rest assured that he or she will be cared for by pediatric experts in a safe, comforting environment close to home. The Pediatric Inpatient Unit provides a playroom for younger children stocked with toys, games and movies. Older children have access to DVD players and gaming systems that they can use in their rooms. Through our animal-assisted therapy program, specially trained dogs and their handlers may visit children in the Pediatric Inpatient Unit for a healthy dose of tail-wagging attention. These visits help comfort children while also reducing their stress.
To keep our smallest patients as comfortable as possible, our Pediatric Inpatient Unit has special visiting hour rules:
Pediatric specialists from Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago care for your child in conjunction with your pediatrician. These board-certified, hospital-based physicians also work with NCH pediatric nurses who are trained in pediatric advanced life support (PALS) to provide a full range of advanced medical services.
In addition, NCH’s unique relationship with Lurie Children’s allows us to offer you a variety of pediatric specialty outpatient care consultations and follow-up with specialists such as pediatric cardiologists and pediatric urologists. These specialists are available for an appointment at the Busse Center for Specialty Medicine on the NCH campus.
