Visitor Guidelines

Monday – Friday = 7am-8pm

Saturday – Sunday = 8am-8pm

Visitor guidelines differ throughout the hospital depending on the department. Please look further below for policies and exceptions relating to specific visitation areas.

Any visitor will need to follow the below guidelines:

Amid an increase in respiratory illness transmissions and guidance by the Illinois Department of Public Health, we are updating our masking policy to protect our most vulnerable patients:

• We require patients and visitors to mask when experiencing respiratory virus symptoms.
• We strongly recommend patients to mask when they are seeking care in high-risk areas*, and other individuals to mask when they are visiting patients in high-risk areas*.
• We kindly ask visitors who are sick to please reschedule visits.

*High risk areas include all areas within our inpatient medical centers (i.e. inpatient units, ICUs, procedural areas, labor & delivery), emergency departments and cancer centers. If you are unsure, please ask.

• All visitors should enter at the Main Entrance (#4)
• Age restrictions apply to the following units.
  • Visitors for Critical Care Unit must be 12 years or older.
• Visitors should self-screen for symptoms before entering the hospital or care site. Please do not visit if you have any of these symptoms or have had an exposure or a positive test result within the past 10 days.
  • Chills or fever (+100.4) within the last 24-48 hours
  • Cough orshortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle, body aches or headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
• Visitors may be asked to present a form of identification, as necessary.
• Visitors must wear a visitor badge at all times.
• One overnight visitor is allowed, as long as they follow infection prevention control policies. (Overnight visitors are not permitted in the Critical Care Unit.)

Visitor guidelines differ throughout the hospital depending on the department. Visitors who do not comply with the guidelines may be asked to leave. We thank you for your cooperation. Please look further below for policies relating to our specific visitation areas.

• After receiving a visitor badge, visitors should perform hand hygiene prior to entering the patient’s room and when leaving.
• If the patient leaves their room or is transferred to another department, visitors should follow the policies of the new department, as guidelines may differ throughout the hospital.

*High risk areas include all areas within our inpatient medical centers (i.e. inpatient units, ICUs, procedural areas, labor & delivery), emergency departments and cancer centers. If you are unsure, please ask.

• Visitors for a COVID positive patient should wear a medical grade mask, gown and gloves at all times while in the room, regardless of vaccination status.
• If a visitor needs assistance while in a patient room, visitor should use the patient call button for assistance.

• 2 visitors at a time
• Inpatient Rehab Units -4 visitors at a time

• 2 visitors at a time
• Visitors for Critical Care Unit must be 12 years or older.
• Overnight visitors are not permitted in the Critical Care Unit.

• Only parents/guardians are permitted to visit.

• 2 visitors at a time
• 1 visitor/partner for the entire stay

• 2 visitors at a time
• 1 visitor/partner for the duration of the stay
• 1 doula (must be the same doula) for the duration of the birth parent’s stay

• 2 visitors at a time

• 1 support person at a time once the patient has been assigned a room.
• Visitors are not permitted to wait in the waiting areas due to limited ability of social distancing.

• 2 visitors in registration and surgical prep area (SPA) / Pre-op, provided social distancing can be accomplished
• 2 visitors when patient is in recovery and preparing for outpatient discharge (PACU II)
• Waiting room is open with limited capacity due to social distancing.
• For surgical family waiting (2 North), groups larger than 2 should wait in the first floor waiting area at the North Entrance.

Outpatient Centers & Services include immediate care centers, medical offices, radiation oncology, and other outpatient testing areas.

• Up to 2 support persons provided social distancing can be accomplished

Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the care team.

• For critically ill/end-of-life patients—the number of visitors will be managed by the care team.
• Life altering diagnosis (i.e. cancer) or for high risk procedures.
• Pediatrics/Labor and Delivery/Mother Baby/NICU
• Essential caregiver support and Power of Attorney (POA’s) for procedures and services—to be approved by the care team.

Please note:

• Behavioral health visitor guidelines may differ and are at the discretion of that department.

If your loved one is admitted to the hospital, you may drop off belongings for them that will be delivered to their room.

• Drop off location – Main Entrance #4; use Parking Garage A. (view map)
• Drop off hours – Daily, 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Please leave valuables at home
