NCH today announced that it has been recognized for the seventh straight year as a 2023 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ recipient by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards recognize the top 10% of hospitals across the country in 17 specialty care areas. This achievement reflects NCH’s outstanding clinical outcomes for Pulmonary Care and distinguishes NCH as one of the nation’s leading hospitals for pulmonary care. NCH also received Five-Star Distinctions in:
Earlier this year, NCH received the Patient Safety Excellence Award for a second year in a row (2021-2022).
“Our mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve and to meet individuals’ healthcare needs,” said NCH’s Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Tom Oryszczak, D.O. “We strive for excellence in everything we do which is why we are so proud to be recognized by Healthgrades as one of the leading hospitals in the country for pulmonary care as well as for outstanding performance in many areas including cardiac care, critical care, stroke and neuroscience. We have a phenomenal team of physicians and healthcare professionals who work together with one goal in mind – to provide the best possible care for our patients.”
Healthgrades evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures at nearly 4,500 hospitals across the country to identify the top-performing hospitals for specialty care. This year’s analysis revealed significant variation in patient outcomes between hospitals with a 2023 Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Award and hospitals that did not receive the award. From 2019-2021, patients treated at hospitals receiving the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ have, on average, a 53.0% lower mortality risk compared to treatment in hospitals that did not receive the award.
“We commend NCH for their ongoing commitment to providing high-quality care to patients being treated for pulmonary care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Consumers can feel confident that recipients of the 2023 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award have demonstrated their ability to deliver consistently exceptional outcomes.”
