NCH’s Pediatric ED ensures ill and injured kids get the care they need throughout the pandemic

April 30, 2020

Like many healthcare organizations throughout the country, Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) has been witnessing an alarming and dangerous trend: families avoiding coming to the hospital for emergency care for their children because they fear exposure to COVID-19.

Parents, you can feel confident in seeking care for your children here at NCH for any acute or urgent complaints especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Pediatric Emergency Department, in partnership with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, is staffed by doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses solely dedicated to the care of children and teens.

NCH and Lurie Children’s are working diligently to ensure the Pediatric Emergency Department uses infection control practices based on best-available evidence, to keep all patients, visitors and staff safe. Also, all protocols set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Cook County Public Health Department are followed to ensure the safety of families during their emergency visits.

We are ready to care for your children’s illness and injury. In addition, we will assist in the form of immediate clinical advice from the Peds ED, as our on-duty Peds ED physician and nurse practitioner are ready to take your calls and answer questions.

We also want to remind you not to skip the important, age-appropriate care with your child’s primary care provider.  Make sure they continue to get their vaccines and annual check-ups. Please call your pediatrician’s office with any questions or concerns.

Your pediatrician and all the staff in our Pediatric ED are here for your family.
