It wasn’t the most pleasant news when Jon Garlovsky, D.O., an ED physician at NCH since 2014, learned he was being deployed to Kuwait for a second tour. It was a most inconvenient time. He and his wife Trisha (a former ED nurse at NCH) were in the process of moving. Their two young sons, ages 1 and 2, needed him. But he answered the call to serve his country and in August of 2018, he left for what would be a 105-day tour.

While away, Dr. Garlovsky was able to video chat daily with his family. Although he missed them terribly, he said the busy emergency department at the United States Military Hospital at Camp Arifjan distracted him.

“My main job there was to (1) be an administrator and (2) to do the work of an emergency physician,” Dr. Garlovsky told a group of 75 employees who lined the hallway of the main entrance to shake his hand, wave flags and shout praises at their beloved fellow employee. The homecoming event was one way to honor his service and welcome him back to NCH where he’ll officially resume his duties in the ED on Friday, December 7.

“Your absence was definitely felt and your presence was missed,” ED Manager Rachel Rosanova told Dr. Garlovsky.
