Doc turned philanthropist honored with plaque

July 3, 2019

On July 2, 2019, Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) unveiled a plaque commemorating the generosity of retired obstetrician and gynecologist Peter Geittmann, M.D., and The Peter Geittmann Foundation, which provides assistance to underprivileged mothers and babies. A total of $200,000 has been donated to the NCH Foundation, aiding women facing financial woes due to mounting medical bills from serious diagnoses and providing prenatal care for underserved women that has led to hundreds of healthy deliveries.

About 40 NCH leadership, staff, friends and family gathered on the Labor and Delivery floor to share stories of how Dr. Geittmann – who delivered more than 5,000 babies from 1981 through 2017 at the hospital – touched their lives with his calming, professional presence and caring spirit.

“It’s our privilege and honor and with great gratitude that we present this plaque to forever keep your name and legacy ever present,” David Ungurean, Executive Director of the NCH Foundation said, moments before the unveiling. The plaque is hung in a prominent spot directly across from a nurses’ station on the Labor and Delivery floor at NCH.

“This means a great deal to me,” Dr. Geittmann said. “I’m very appreciative and it will always be a symbol of the dedication we’ve had to Northwest Community Hospital and also a symbol, I think, of the relationship that I’ve had with all these wonderful nurses for so many years.”
