NCH Emergency Department Earns National Lantern Award for Excellence

June 14, 2017

Arlington Heights, Ill. (June 14, 2017) – The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) announced today the Emergency Department at Northwest Community Hospital (NCH) has earned a 2017 Lantern Award. NCH’s Emergency Department is one of only three in the state and 22 in the country to earn the award.

The Lantern Award is a recognition award given to emergency departments that exemplify exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research. The award is a visible symbol of an emergency department’s commitment to quality, presence of a healthy work environment, and accomplishment in incorporating evidence-based practice and innovation into emergency care.

“The Lantern Award application and review process is rigorous, and shows the Emergency Department team members at NCH go above and beyond to ensure quality and safety in the care we provide,” said Kimberly A. Nagy, M.S.N., R.N., NEA-BC, Executive Vice President, Patient Services, and Chief Nursing Officer at NCH.

Emergency departments that apply for the award submit detailed performance metrics, narratives and exemplar responses. The ENA has a team of reviewers evaluate the submissions through a blinded review process. The Lantern Award designation is valid for three years.

NCH will be recognized this fall at ENA’s Annual Awards Gala for Emergency Nursing.
