Dr. John Ortinau, surrounded by his colleagues

John M. Ortinau, M.D., FACEP, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director at NCH, received the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians (ICEP) Meritorious Service Award for “significant contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine by exemplary service.” Dr. Ortinau, who became EMS Medical Director at NCH in 1997, plans to retire at the end of 2016 after a stellar career in providing out-of-hospital care as EMS Medical Director of the Northwest Community Emergency Medical Services System (NWC EMS).

The NWC EMS consists of 25 EMS agencies employing 1,300 emergency medical technicians and paramedics who provide care to those in our surrounding communities under Dr. Ortinau’s leadership.

Dr. Ortinau attended Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and completed his residency in family practice at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He was one of the first physicians to earn subspecialty board certification in Emergency Medical Services from the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
