Who’s the quarterback of your healthcare?

Tuesday, April 2, 2019

A primary care physician (PCP) is the doctor who gathers your medical history, assesses your health needs and provides comprehensive care to patients of all ages through all stages of life. A PCP is considered the quarterback of your medical team, says a Stanford Medicine article that shows patients who see a PCP actually live longer.

PCPs see you annually for a regular check-up and blood work, and they can provide referrals for any specialized care you may need. Because they know your medical history very well, they can help to prevent illness, manage chronic problems and quickly recognize any significant change in your health that could point to a serious or emerging condition.

Don’t have a PCP? Meet NCH Medical Group Family Medicine Physician Brian Jacover, D.O. Dr. Jacover practices at 1051 W. Rand Road, Suite 102 in Arlington Heights. “I believe it’s important to include patients in decision making,” says Dr. Jacover. “Understanding each patient’s living situation, lifestyle and experiences plays a major role in a proper and consistent treatment plan."
