DAISY and GEM Award honorees personify excellence at NCH and contribute to a remarkable patient experience.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. NCH is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner. Each month, we recognize one of our nurses with this special honor for the important difference they make in the lives they touch. DAISY winners receive a certificate, pin and small sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch, as well as a voucher for Cinnabon® cinnamon rolls to share with their team.

The GEM Award (“Going Extra Miles”) was developed to recognize and reward the contributions and/or compassionate care given by a NON-NURSING staff member. Excellent care delivery involves coordination of a variety of skilled individuals of various specialties. Teamwork is core to our Northwest Community Healthcare mission: "We exist to improve the health of the communities we serve and to meet the individuals’ healthcare needs." GEM winners receive a certificate, pin and small gift from NCH, recognizing their exceptional work.

Every nominee receives a nominee certificate and award pin, recognizing their exemplary contributions that enhance the patient's experience and support NCH's values.

About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of complications of an auto-immune disease. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem. During Pat’s hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to Pat, but to everyone in his family. One of the goals they set in creating a foundation in his memory was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere, who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do everyday.
