Reduce your risk of future cardiac symptoms
NCH offers a comprehensive outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program that begins shortly after discharge from the hospital. The closely-supervised program provides progressive exercise, education and counseling. Patients attend classes two to three times per week at the Wellness Center, located on the hospital campus in Arlington Heights. A physician referral is required to participate in the program.
The length of the program is determined by the individualized plan, which includes:
- medical evaluation
- supervised exercise
- modification of cardiac risk factors
- individual and group counseling
- behavior modification
By utilizing state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, your fitness level will increase under the supervision of experienced nurses, exercise physiologists and other healthcare providers. Your physician will be periodically updated on your progress.
Benefits of the program include:
- A supportive environment offers close interaction with our professional staff and the camaraderie of other patients
- Helps prevent or delay the onset of future cardiac symptoms or problems
- Improves physical function and lessens health risks
As part of this ongoing exercise and education program, you will learn how to make a long-term commitment to a healthy lifestyle. For graduates of cardiac rehab, the Wellness Center provides independent exercise options and benefits. Participants completing cardiac rehab are offered a complimentary personal training session to assist in customizing their exercise program.
In 2014, NCH's cardiac rehabilitation program earned certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
