If you have a chronic lung disorder, NCH’s pulmonary rehabilitation program will help you improve your health and prevent future complications. In-depth, two-phase outpatient rehabilitation programs are designed to keep you fit and healthy. They provide you with exercise and endurance training, plus lifestyle modification through group and individual counseling. Our multidisciplinary team of nurses, respiratory therapists and exercise physiologists will design a program that will help you best manage your disease and symptoms.
In 2015, NCH's pulmonary rehabilitation program earned certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). NCH was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care.
NCH has been a Healthgrades Five-Star Recipient for the Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease for three years in a row (2014-2016).
Individualized and supportive programs are designed to:
- Reduce your symptoms
- Increase your strength and endurance
- Increase your activity levels
- Improve your emotional outlook
- Prevent infections, complications and future hospital stays
You will attend two to three exercise and education sessions per week, each for about one-and-a-half hours. For the best long-term results, we divide the rehabilitation program into two parts. Phase II is the reconditioning process where it all begins. Phase III emphasizes maintaining the progress you have achieved in Phase II and teaches you how to maintain your health once you complete the program.
Get active to stay healthy
Our rehabilitation programs raise your level of physical activity and get you back to living your life more fully. Every program includes:
- Supervised exercise
- Breathing retraining
- Individual and group education and counseling for lifestyle modification
- On-going support
Your family members or loved ones are welcome to participate
We encourage a team approach for successful pulmonary rehab. Family members are welcome to join in all the educational and counseling sessions.
Health care coverage
Most health insurance companies cover the prescribed services of Part II – the reconditioning part of our program. Phase III, the maintenance part of the program, does involve modest out-of-pocket costs which may be covered by your flexible or healthcare spending account, or a supplemental insurance program.
One of NCH’s cardiopulmonary rehab team members will be glad to work with you to determine the extent of coverage, and options for services.
