Perinatal Palliative Care
We’re here to support families as they navigate their way following a life-limiting diagnosis. Our mission is to provide compassionate and holistic care to families going through this difficult time, through pregnancy and beyond. We know this journey is filled with overwhelming emotions and difficult decisions. Our interdisciplinary team of specialists is here to work with families from diagnosis through the remainder of the pregnancy and beyond.
Program Components
Our caring staff trained in Perinatal Palliative Care will:
- Co-create a plan for the baby’s birth
- Honor the relationship the baby has with each family member
- Learn parents’ hopes for their baby’s life to align with the goals of care
- Help parents and families understand all treatment options
- Assist in talking with other children about the uncertainty of the pregnancy outcome
- Guide parents in making decisions about their baby’s medical care
- Strengthen the family’s coping strategies
- Communicate parents’ goals of care to every member on the interdisciplinary team
- Offer opportunities for memory making during the pregnancy and after birth that align with parents’ values, cultural and religious traditions
- Connect families with community resources and counseling
