NCH Medical Group celebrates 10 years

January 20, 2021

Dr. Sue Nelson is a key part of hospital leadership and leads the NCH Medical Group.

NCH Medical Group missed its 10-year celebration – but considering it was seven months into a global pandemic, we simply had to postpone the party and look forward to the next milestone when life is safer for socializing and celebrating.

Aside from the anniversary, there are other ways to recognize NCH Medical Group; in fact, the fourth week in January is National Medical Group Practice Week. It’s not the sugar-filled holiday on October 31 or the roses and chocolates of February 14, but it is an important week in healthcare. In honor of National Medical Group Practice Week, we are launching a series of articles highlighting what NCH Medical Group is and what it means to the community.

It’s best to start at the beginning. In the fall of 2010, Affinity Health Care was acquired by Northwest Community Health Services and became what is now NCH Medical Group. There were 28 primary care physicians, an imaging center and physical therapy services. Ten years later, 21 of those original physicians are still part of the organization.

Fast forward to 2021, the NCH Medical Group now includes more than 240 physicians and advanced practice providers who offer exceptional patient care in the inpatient, outpatient, immediate care, behavioral health and skilled facility settings. The medical group specializes in everything from prevention to complex disease management and is passionate about the quality of care provided.

Along with its large network of physicians, NCH Medical Group is a major employer. There are medical office managers, medical assistants, receptionists, advanced practice providers and, of course, many nurses. It takes more than 750 talented individuals to keep the group running safely, smoothly and able to provide the best patient care possible.

If you live in the NCH community, you are likely to be near an NCH Medical Group office. Services are offered in more than 20 locations throughout the northwest suburbs: Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows, Mount Prospect, Kildeer, Schaumburg and Palatine.

The NCH Medical Group is led by Susan Nelson, M.D. In addition to her administrative role as Vice President Physician Operations on the hospital leadership team, she is an Internal Medicine specialist and actively sees patients at the 1450 Busch Parkway, Buffalo Grove location. Her clinical expertise helps guide strategic planning and clinical integrations strategies at a system level.

“I’m really pleased to highlight the phenomenal care and service provided by every member of the NCH Medical Group,” said Dr. Nelson. “It’s important for community members to understand the world class healthcare options they have right here in the northwest suburbs. Stay tuned to learn more.”
