Center for Preventive Cardiac & Vascular Health & Wellness

We offer a variety of programs to prevent heart disease and improve your overall heart health, including disease education, nutrition, risk reduction, lifestyle changes, cholesterol management and more. All this starts with a visit to one of our board-certified cardiologists or vascular surgeons, who can educate you on heart health risks, identify any potential issues and create a treatment plan, if needed. He or she can also help you take preventive measures to keep your heart healthy and avoid potential issues in the future.

Services We Offer

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

Our comprehensive outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program begins shortly after discharge from the hospital. The program provides closely supervised exercise, education and counseling. Patients attend classes two to three times per week at the NCH Wellness Center, located on the hospital campus in Arlington Heights. A physician referral is required to participate in the program.

Supervised Exercise Therapy for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Patients

Approximately 8.5 million people in the United States have PAD, a disease that is similar to coronary artery disease but occurs in the arteries of the legs. Physical activity and exercise are important for preventing or improving symptoms of PAD. Our Supervised Exercise Therapy program is offered through the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, located in the NCH Wellness Center on the hospital campus. It’s designed to extend walking distances, build healthy habits and improve the quality of life for those with PAD.

MedFit Program at the NCH Wellness Center

The MedFit Program is a 60-day guided exercise program dedicated to improving overall health and wellness and customized to your specific fitness goals. The program conforms to the guiding principles of Exercise is Medicine™, shared by the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Association, to encourage physical activity and exercise in healthcare settings.
