Quality surgery, close to home. At NCH, we provide you with comprehensive surgical services, ranging from minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgeries to traditional surgical procedures. We’re committed to offering the most advanced surgical technologies, that’s why we were among the first hospitals to offer surgery using the da Vinci^® Robotic Surgical System for a wide range of prostate, kidney, gynecological and colorectal surgical procedures. And, with the da Vinci system—da Vinci Xi™—we’ve increased our ability to offer minimally invasive surgeries for a broader range of conditions.

We perform more than 17,000 inpatient surgeries, outpatient surgeries and minimally invasive surgeries each year. And whether we’re performing back surgery, breast surgery, gallbladder surgery, heart surgery, orthopedic surgery or any other general surgery procedure, we are committed to providing the best, safest care possible.

All of our operating rooms are staffed by Magnet^®-designated nurses, surgical technologists, and board-certified anesthesiologists and surgeons. Our multidisciplinary teams meet weekly to discuss patients’ medical history, diagnostic testing, surgical procedures, treatment options and pain management. We also have dedicated nurse specialists who are here to coordinate your treatment and answer questions.

Outpatient Surgery

Nearly half of the surgical procedures we perform each year are done on an outpatient basis—which means the patient being operated on typically goes home the day of the surgery.

Depending on the type of outpatient or minimally invasive surgery you are having, it will be scheduled at either the Day Surgery Center or at one of NCH’s main operating rooms (MORs) at the hospital.

Inpatient Surgery

If you will be staying in the hospital for at least one night after your procedure, then you are scheduled for inpatient surgery. Inpatient surgery is performed in one of the main operating rooms.

We have 14 operating rooms representing the latest in surgical facilities. They feature private recovery bays and comfortable, full-service waiting rooms with a children’s area and wireless internet.

Pediatric Surgery

If your child is having surgery, we will do everything possible to put both you and your child at ease. Depending upon the type of surgery your child is having, the operation will be scheduled at either the Day Surgery Center or in one of our main operating rooms.
