NCH celebrates cancer survivors

May 12, 2021

We’re excited to share in a virtual Cancer Survivor Celebration again in 2021, and we’re hoping that 2022 brings us back together again in person.

Cancer Services at Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) welcomes cancer survivors and their loved ones to celebrate live at a virtual gathering. Sunday, June 6 is the 34th annual National Cancer Survivor Day and 2021 marks the 20th year NCH has held an event.

The online event at nch.org/celebratingsurvivors2021 will begin at 2 p.m. and will feature host Michael Hartke, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of NCH. Hartke will introduce two guest speakers, Amy Stomper, a breast cancer survivor and an advanced practice nurse at NCH, and Al Train, a local prostate cancer survivor.

“This year, like last, we have to have a virtual event, and we miss a face-to-face celebration. We hope next year it will be possible to be in person,” says Hartke. “However, no matter the format, the important thing is for all survivors to understand they are not alone and they have a community that understands and supports them.”

Special entertainment will be provided by the NCH Choir, led by NCH Organizational Engagement and Internal Communications Manager, Alice Brown. Also included will be photos of many NCH cancer survivors enjoying life throughout the video.

The event is free and will be accessible to viewers throughout the summer.
