Why I vaccinate

September 13, 2021

NCH employees are passionate about health and want to share their reason for getting their COVID-19 vaccine!

Abe has been a part of the vaccination planning team since the beginning, helping hire and assign team members to greet, register, administer vaccines, monitor patients and more in our Immediate Care Centers and in the NCH Vaccine Clinic.

If you have already been vaccinated, whether at NCH or another healthcare provider, we thank you! If you haven’t, it’s not too late to protect yourself. Vaccines are available for free at the five NCH Immediate Care Centers. Appointments are strongly encouraged at our ICCs in Buffalo Grove, Kildeer, Mount Prospect, Schaumburg and on the campus of Harper College.

Name: Abe Cortes
Title: Sr. Human Resources Business Partner
Department: Human Resources
Current hometown: Batavia
Why I got vaccinated: I’m a former firefighter and medic and we hold tightly the Fireman’s Prayer. The first two lines of this poem are “When I’m called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage, give me the strength to save some life whatever be its age.” I’m a father, a Latino and a leader and with that comes the responsibility and having the strength to do right by protecting my family and my community.
