Hospital Policies

While you’re our guest, we’ll do everything we can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. But we need your help extending these courtesies to fellow patients and visitors as well. We know a visit to the hospital can be a stressful time, but following a few simple rules of conduct makes sure others receive the same amount of respect as you do. We thank you for your cooperation, and ask that you please:

  • Speak softly and show consideration to all
  • Respect the privacy of others
  • Monitor the behavior of children
Visiting Hours

For most of the hospital, visiting hours are 10:00 am–9:00 pm. However, some exceptions include:

  • If you are a primary support person for a patient, you may make arrangements to visit at any time
  • If an adult accompanies them, children are allowed to make short visits
  • If you have special needs regarding visiting hours, please speak with a member of the nursing staff

Other department/unit policies may vary. Call 847‑618‑1000 to reach a specific department.

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones may be used in most areas of our campus. However, cell phones can disrupt medical equipment, so they must be turned OFF:

  • Within three feet of medical equipment in all patient care areas, including IV-medication pumps, heart monitors, ventilators, telemetry antennas and lab analyzers
  • In highly medically instrumented areas such as Critical Care Patient rooms that have multiple pieces of medical equipment in use for patient care; Operating rooms—Main Operating Room and Day Surgery Center; Procedure rooms—i.e., GI Lab, Special Procedures; Cath Labs; NICU; and the Central Telemetry Room

Walkie-talkies can also cause disruptions and should not be used within 10 feet of medical equipment or in highly medically instrumented areas.​ Devices may not be used to record patients, staff or facilities, except in limited situations.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted on NCH property, including all buildings, parking garages, surrounding grounds or in vehicles on the property.

Guest Wireless Network

For your convenience, free wireless Internet access is available in most areas throughout the hospital. Please ask one of our staff members for help if you need assistance connecting to our network.
